I’m Christian Schleifer, a backend software engineer based in Munich. I work on distributed backend systems, low-latency services, large-scale data processing, and the reliability work needed to keep production systems understandable and operable.

Before software engineering, I studied medicine and completed a doctorate in cardiovascular research. That background still shapes how I work: I like careful diagnosis, root-cause analysis, and turning ambiguous problems into something concrete enough to reason about.

This blog is where I write about the systems topics I want to understand more deeply. How does the Linux kernel represent processes? How does virtual memory work? What are networking layers really doing? How do database indexes work? What is asynchronous I/O really about? I like looking behind abstractions, sometimes conceptually and sometimes by building small, bare-bones implementations myself.

I have learned a lot from technical writing by others. This site is my way of contributing back and keeping notes in public.
